Information about the IOM Team

Internet Outreach Ministry, Inc. (IOM) extends an invitation to any Christian who would like to join the IOM Team. IOM is an email, internet and chatroom ministry, with several IRC (Internet Relay Chat) Chat Rooms or "channels" as well as E-mail Groups, Internet Forums and other functions - all geared toward presenting the Gospel online to bring the lost to Christ and to strengthen and encourage Christians and prepare them for service. The information presented here is primarily about our chatroom ministry as this is where the greatest need is at this time. If you are a Christian and would like to help us bring the love of Jesus to the lost and hurting over the Internet, we would love to have you on the IOM Team!

There is a lot to know about ministering over the Internet. It can be risky - even dangerous. Especially the kind of ministry we do in IOM. This type of ministry is not for the faint-hearted, or for the spiritually immature. Our websites and chatrooms are structured to draw people who have serious problems or major struggles in their lives because it is at this point that people are the most receptive to calling on the Lord for help. The chatroom mentors must be emotionally stable and spiritually mature to be able to minister to sensitive personal issues without being disgusted by them or drawn into them or pulled down by them. We have a screening and training process that will determine your fitness for this type of ministry and prepare you to become a chatroom mentor.

There is also a lot to learn about Christian chatroom ministry. Not only how to deal with the issues of those who come to us for help, but how to minister in unison with Christians from all over the world who have different denominational backgrounds and cultures. When Christians who have never met one another and have no contact outside of the chatroom are trying to work together, there will most certainly be different ways of handling chatroom situations. To help us all work together in a way that pleases the Lord and blesses those He brings to us, we have developed an Online Ministry Training Course to define the ministry and its operational procedures in writing. Finally, as in any ministry, we are not serving a person or an organization - we are serving the Lord Jesus Christ. If we all stay connected to Him as a branch to the Vine, His life will flow through us and produce good fruit.

P.S. Please don't hesitate to recommend anyone you believe to be "able to minister" online. As God builds this work, we will need more people to minister in the chatrooms, the email lists and websites, and to follow up with those God brings to us. Often there are more people in a chatroom needing ministry than there are people to minister to them. So please pray and let God lead, and refer this website to those you believe He wants to join with us in this ministry. (Please be aware not to "recruit" anyone who currently works in other Christian chatrooms or online Christian ministries.)
